MST Minecraft

FAQ

I'm Grant. Currently an MST junior.

That's tough, and there's no single answer. The server's main purpose is to provide a place for MST students to socialize with each other, which doesn't become boring once we beat the Ender Dragon and everyone gets full netherite. There's what I hope the server will become, and what the playerbase wants. There's also what will keep the server alive for the longest, hopefully even after I leave MST. There's some simple countermeasures I can take (anticheat comes to mind), but past those what to do becomes quite fuzzy. At the beginning of the server, I plan to leave things up to the players and I'll see how that goes. The server doesn't have any particular theme, so don't think you have to be either cutthroat or peaceful, what you do is up to you. I think there's room for people to have a comfy experience on the server and a more competitive one, so long as you can find people who want the same experience as you! I hope that the server will last for years, and that future generations of MST students can look upon the ruins of classes before them, but I know that probably won't happen. If the server dies or people find that it's becoming uninteresting I'll definitely consider starting a new season from scratch, adding mods, doing planned events, or otherwise spicing things up. I do want to hear your suggestions though! We have a suggestions channel on the Discord, so put your craziest idea in there and we can discuss it.

Yup! The server has the GeyserMC plugin allowing for this. The process for joining on bedrock is nearly identical to the process for joining on Java, which can be found in the guides. The only differences are button placements and if you're on console, you will have to follow this guide in order to access non Microsoft-approved servers by changing the DNS settings on your console. If you have any issues or encounter any glitches or simply need help getting this set up, feel free to contact me or ask for help in the tech-help section of the Discord. I'll try to help as soon as I can.

It's been about a year since I've started this. I've only worked on this project actively for a few months out of that year, and I've had it nearly complete for a while now. The main reasons it didn't come out sooner are:

  1. I wanted to launch at the beginning of a school break, so that people would have time to play.
  2. I suck at programming.
  3. There were a bunch of third party roadblocks that I wasn't aware that I would have to work through before launch, which caused me to have to push the release date to later than I originally intended.

I really should've. The main reason as to why I didn't was because I didn't have any reliable way to contact all of MST other than through email, which I didn't want to do often if possible. The school (very reasonably) puts roadblocks in the way of mass emails between students, and I have a feeling that if I emailed everybody regularly, they would've hunted me down. Hopefully once the discord is up this won't be an issue.

Not currently, sorry. I've thought about implementing a "friends of MST" system where people who are friends with many MST students could join, perhaps by some sort of voting system. In essence it would act like an "honorary MST student" pass. If I were to implement such a system though, it would be in the future. Maybe pester me about it on the discord every once in awhile. However, if you find a security vulnerability in my code that would let you circumnavigate my verification system and then you tell me about it, I'll just let you in. You deserve it at that point.

Thanks! Please tell me about it at any of my contacts.

If you belive you got banned by accident or by way of misconduct, please contact me. If you got banned for breaking a rule, you might stay banned depending on the severity of the infraction. Until I have a moderation team filled out, punishments will likely be harsh and at my sole discretion to discourage bad behavior. Don't break the rules! (please)

Please contact me.

I suck at programming, and thought that that was the only way I could implement verification when I was building it. Now all of my code is based around that system and if I touch it it will likely implode. But it does work. That's all that matters.

Really?! Thanks! Please send it to me and I'll put it up!

You really don't, my code is held together with more ChatGPT code than I'd like to admit, duct tape, marshmallows, and pipe cleaners. If you're still determined, pretty please contact me and clean up my code.

Sadly no, it would bring up too many issues with people not in the school and people in the school interacting. The one exception to this rule are the class of 2025, who will be allowed on the server for the duration of the 2025/2026 school year, because I had announced the server while they were still in school, but didn't launch it till the next school year.

Yes.
